“We Are All One” by Jodi Davidson

Words spoken at Oneness Prayer Vigil, June 20, 2020

We are all One.

Yet we are born into a system where some are advantaged and others disadvantaged by the color of their skin.

We are all One.

Yet power relations that have been passed down from generation to generation continue to permeate our society.

We are all One.

Yet the water we swim in stands in the way of true equality.

We are all One.

Yet there are far too many brutal and unjust acts that have led to lost lives.

We are all One.

Yet this Pandemic and economic crisis has disproportionately impacted Black Americans.

And because we are all One

We gather… not to impose guilt or to defend…

Instead we come together to stand for equality, to acknowledge racialized discrepancies, and to give voice to black folks who have been subject to oppression for far too long.

To quote the Archbishop Desmond Tutu “My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together.”

Thank you for being here, for coming together in the name of love!
