Treatment
Spiritual Mind Treatment was initially referred to as simply 'Treatment' by Ernest Holmes. Here's how he defined it in 1926.
Treatment is the art, the act, and the science of consciously inducing thought within the Universal Subjectivity, for the purpose of demonstrating that we are surrounded by a Creative Medium which responds to us through a law of correspondence. In its more simple meaning, treatment is the time, process and method necessary to the changing of our thought. Treatment is clearing the thought of negation, of doubt and fear, and causing it to perceive the ever-presence of God.
Spiritual Mind Treatment
As it's defined today...
Spiritual Mind Treatment (SMT) — also known as affirmative prayer — is a metaphysical practice rooted in New Thought philosophy, especially in Religious Science (founded by Ernest Holmes). It is a structured method of prayer designed to align the individual’s mind with the infinite intelligence of the Universe (God, Spirit, Source) to bring about an personal experience of healing, clarity, prosperity, and/or transformation.
Key Features of Spiritual Mind Treatment
Unlike traditional supplication-based prayer (asking a deity for help), SMT is based on the belief that:
  • God/Spirit is the omnipresence, omnipotence, and omniscience of Life within each of us.
  • Our thoughts & beliefs determine our experience of Life.
  • Healing and good already exist; our role is to claim them.
The Five Steps of Spiritual Mind Treatment
A Scientific Method of Affirmative Prayer

1) Recognition – Acknowledge the allness and power of Spirit (e.g., "God/Life/Love is all there is— perfect, whole, and complete.")

2) Unification – Affirm your oneness with that Spirit (e.g., "I am one with God, with Life, with Love.")

3) Realization (Affirmation) – State clearly what you desire to experience, as though you are already experiencing it (e.g., "I now affirm and accept peace and clarity in my life.")

4) Gratitude – Express your gratitude that what you affirmed and accepted in Step Three is already done. (e.g., "I am grateful that peace and clarity now manifesting in every area of my Life.")

5) Release – Let go and trust the Universe to bring it into form (e.g., "I release my Word into the activity of Law, knowing it is done. And so it is.")
